Olympic Kiln - 514 Slider

Model - 514 Slider  240 or 208 volt, inside dimensions: 29" x 29" wide x 13.5" deep, fires to 1700° F

The 514 Slider square clamshell designed kiln with inside dimensions measuring 29" x 29" wide x 13.5" deep has a sliding floor for ease in loading and glass manipulation.  514 Slider is bolted to an 18" heavy angle iron stand and comes completely assembled when shipped.  The gas strut opens the firing chamber with ease and  the sleek wooden handle keeps things cool as you slide the kiln floor out to a fully extended 65" front-to-back.  The model has an element in the lid of the kiln to provide radiant heat needed when fusing temperature is reached and elements in the kiln walls for conductive heat.  Elements in the firing chamber are used to evenly heat the glass piece and the lid element is used when fusing temperature is reached. Models have a maximum temperature range of 1700°F to protect the optional quartz glass viewing window but can be reprogrammed to fire to higher temperatures.

The 514 Slider comes equipped with pilot light, a tall 18” heavy angle iron stand, stainless steel jacket, and the Bartlett 12 Key digital RTC-1000 electronic controller. Included in the kiln package are peephole plugs, instruction manuals, warranty card.  Two-year Kiln Limited Warranty.

The RTC-1000 controller has ramp-hold user programs and multiple features including delay start, preheat, skip step and many more for precise firings every time.  Messages and information are available for reviewing a firing profile before or during the firing, and for viewing the current segment the firing is in.  Other options include upgrading to the GENESIS electronic controller with touch screen technology, lid lift assist for models 18” wide or smaller, Type S thermocouple, flash arm, quartz glass viewing windows, lid elements in quartz rods, venting, and more!

Furniture Kits for 240-208 volt Glass Fusing kilns provide 2 layers of shelving for stacking ware, assorted small square posts, 1” x 1”, for models 18” wide or smaller and large square posts, 1 ½” x 1 ½”, for kilns 20” wide or larger, ceramic paper, and a one pound bag of kiln wash. Choose the standard furniture kit for the selected model or build your own with shelves and posts in the quantities required.

Solid State Relay

A Solid State Relay is hands down the best investment you can make in your kiln!

The relay is what controls the power cycling of the elements in the kiln and they need to be able to withstand a ton of power as they do so. The solid state relays are incredibly efficient compared to the standard mechanical relays and are able to operate at much faster speeds. What this equates to is incredibly tight temperature control for accurate firings, longer element life, and savings on your electrical bill!

The standard mechanical relays have moving parts which cause wear and tear over the years and will eventually need to be replaced; however with a solid state relay it's likely to last the entire life of the kiln! You willsave money and time by never needing to worry about this in the future!

Controller Selection

Olympic has close relationships with the manufacturers of a variety of digital controllers. This means you will have nothing but the best the best in terms of performance and accuracy in your firings.

With a selection of multiple controllers available - you can choose exactly what fits your needs.

Genesis by Barlett Instruments

The Genesis is a touch screen option which has extended functionality over traditional button controllers!Genesis Controller

The Genesis has the ability to store up to 12 different programs - with up to 32 segments per program each! You'll have no trouble adding segments, skipping, or adding temperature along the way.

This is a great choice for a controller if you want the features of a smart controller, but want the ease of straightforward programming and use.

KilnStar by Barlett Instruments

With an intuitive keypad and versatile features, the Bartlett KilnStar Controller allows operators to create up to 6 custom firing programs, each with up to 8 segments, or combine them for 16-segment programs for more complex firings!

Barlett KilnStar Controller

Need to adjust on-the-go? The KilnStar makes it easy to add time, skip segments, or adjust the final temperature mid-firing. Preheat is a breeze too, with the option to hold the kiln at 200°F for drying ware before moving into the firing cycle.

Cone Fire mode simplifies ceramic firings, while Vary-Fire offers full control over firing profiles, perfect for glass and jewelry. Whether you're firing ceramics, glass, or custom projects, the KilnStar is a flexible and powerful tool for any kiln operator.

Power Interrupt Switch / Automatic Lid Shutoff

The power interrupt switch is a useful safety feature which removes power from the heating elements of your kiln once it is opened, and reapplies the power once the lid has been closed.Power Interrupt Safety Switch

If you believe you'd ever like to open the kiln during firing, the power interrupt switch is a highly recommended addition to your new purchase.

Multi-Zone Thermocouples

The zone control gives the controller the ability to regulate the rates of rising temperature to be even between the different zones. Meaning if the top of the kiln is lagging behind the controller will alter the rate of the bottom two zones to keep things even. When the zone control is turned on in the controller it also allows the operator to see what the temperature is, during the firing, on each of the zones.

All of this improves the evenness of the kiln temperature! We find that it is beneficial when firing a very tightly loaded kiln with lots of shelves stacked close together as a lot of potters do. It is also beneficial to those that fire sculptures that use the entire height of the kiln to ensure a nice even firing.

Furniture Kit

Furniture Kits are necessary accessories for any kiln owner as firing directly on the kiln floor is not only bad for the kiln, but your pieces as well. In addition to this, they're also useful! A furniture kit will allow you to stack multiple shelves on top of one another in order to maximize the useable space when firing smaller pieces.

If you have one that will fit this kiln size already, then you're in luck! But if not, you'll want to ensure you add this to your order as well.

Furniture Kit includes:

  • 2x 27" x 27" square shelf
  • 4x 1" small square posts
  • 4x 3" small square posts
  • 4x 5" small square posts
  • 1x 1 lb bag kiln wash
  • 1x 8 sq. ft. ceramic paper

Kiln furniture can be special ordered separately, but if done so the cost is ~10-20% higher and will incur a separate shipping charge. It's best to include this on your initial order of the kiln.

* Received shelves may contain surface imperfections such as scratches, discoloration or rough edge. These possible imperfections are understood and accepted by the buyer.

Bead Door

The Bead Door is a 2" x 4" opening with an insulated door covering. This is a very useful option when you need quick and easy access into the interior of your kiln, without opening the main door and releasing the kiln's heat.

* The Bead Door is not compatible with the slotted brick door.

Flash Arm

The Flash Arm is a metal arm on kiln that is notched for 2" and 4" openings for the lid venting.

Emergency Parts Kit

The Emergency Parts Kit is an excellent resource to have on hand for when your kiln eventually needs a little maintenance after all your projects! Ensure you never need to slow down and can get right back to work.

This kit includes:
